Lucas & Karina | Engagement Session | Lake Powell & Buckskin Canyon
Lucas and Karina were visiting from Brazil and met up with me near Lake Powell towards the end of their road trip through Utah’s National Parks. We started the shoot in Buckskin Gulch, an incredibly long and stunning slot canyon that’s located just a few miles over the Utah border near Lake Powell. I found that this location is absolutely perfect for multi location shoots in the region as the light is quite flattering at mid day. From there we drove to Alstrom Point on the north side of Lake Powell. To access this area you need four wheel drive and the vehicle needs to be modified for high clearance. Most of the dirt road from Big Water, Utah is quite tame but the last mile to the lookout point is really rough. I drove a Subaru Outback for many years and this stretch was always totally out of the question because of the clearance needed to traverse that last rugged mile. We were treated to an incredible cotton candy colored sunset to end the day. Shooting in a slot canyon was a welcome challenge as they are very dark, the direction of the light changes very quickly, and they are often very narrow (Some stretches were only about 3 feet wide). I hope you enjoy this gallery, I can’t wait to shoot in this region again. If you have any questions about access to these places or want to know more about shooting here, please, don’t hesitate to reach out. Cheers.
