Abigail and Devon | Wedding | Stonebridge Manor Mesa, Arizona
Abigail and Devon hosted their wedding at Stonebridge Manor. We came up with a really great balance between candid and posed photos at this wedding. In my opinion, the most often overlooked moment at each wedding is immediately following the ceremony when the family, wedding party, and sometimes guests, will approach the bride and groom in congratulations. This moment, which is often cut short to focus on group photos, is often more raw and organic because it immediately follows the wedding ceremony. I encourage my couples to embrace this moment, even if it delays family photos by a few minutes (We can make up the time, don’t worry). What’s the point in having a wedding if you cant take advantage of every moment you can to celebrate.
When Abigail initially reached out to me, she expressed that one of the reasons she was attracted to my work was my ability to accurately capture skin tones in interracial couples. This is something I hear a lot, and I am happy to appeal to diverse couples. Photography has been a major aspect of my life for a long time and I remember a time when cameras did struggle with diverse skin tones. They simply lacked the ability to capture a wide enough range between shadows, midtones, and highlights, to retain the color and tone information needed to accurately depict different skin tones next to each other. In fact, it was always kind of a technical nightmare when photographing someone with a darker skin tone was wearing a white outfit. Those days are long behind us though. All modern camera sensors can capture this range. Im grateful that my work appeals to interracial couples but I am disheartened that this is still something that is getting in the way for other photographers. I really don’t think there is much of an excuse for it anymore.
